Susan Elizabeth Latta

Susan (Sue) Elizabeth Latta, age 74, of Napoleon, Ohio died Friday February 17, 2017. The daughter of Henry and Angeline Van Poppel, she was born April 19, 1942 in Hamler, OH. She was a 1961 graduate of the former Hamler High School. While working at the former Rink Restaurant in Napoleon, Ohio she met a young man named Billy Latta whom she married on March 27, 1965. A devout catholic, Susan is a former parishioner of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Napoleon, Ohio and currently a parishioner of St. Caspar Catholic Church in Wauseon, Ohio. A consummate mother, she dedicated herself to raising five children. She worked a number of jobs outside the home, most notably as a school bus driver and cafeteria cashier for over twenty years for Napoleon City Schools. Sue enjoyed many hobbies such as quilting and sewing. A creative and crafty woman, she also enjoyed upholstering and refinishing furniture. She grew an amazing vegetable garden and looked forward to canning her bounty every year. Holidays were always a special time for her as it was time to spend with her beloved family. Decorating her home to fit the season and undertaking the joyful task of cooking holidays meals and baking every treat imaginable was most enjoyable to her. The annual travel vacation with her sisters, who she shared a special bond with, was the highlight of her year. She will be remembered most as an incredible and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 51 years Bill; children, Michael, David (Sarah), Philip, Peter, Kimberly Latta; grandchildren, Alexander, Allison, Brianna, Andrew, Amanda, Isaac, Elizabeth, Marcus, Madalen, Jocelyn, Myles; siblings, Mary (Kenny) Klear, Dorothy Van Poppel Ray, James (Emma) Van Poppel, Robert Bob Van Poppel, Evelyn (Vern) Good, Kathleen (Carl) Sanniti; siblings-in-law, Brenda (Ralph) Badenhope, Roger (Cindy) Latta, Barbara (Mike) Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews. Susan was preceded in death by her brother Henry Jr. Hank Van Poppel, and sister Ann Miller. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday February 22, 2017 from 2-8 PM at St. Caspar Catholic Church 1205 N. Shoop Ave. Wauseon, OH 43567. The family will receive friends again on Thursday February 23, 2017 from 10:00-11:00 AM at St. Caspar Catholic Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM; with Fr. Dave Bruning and Fr. Fred Duschl officiating. Interment will be private at the St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery.
