Susan B. Kinsel, age 83, was called to be with her Lord on Monday, April 4, 2016. She was a longtime resident of Maumee and moved to Creekside at Lutheran Village of Wolf Creek in 2001. Susan was born on June 11, 1932 in Toledo, Ohio to Charles and Louise (Artz) Bond. She graduated from Maumee High School in 1950; graduated from BGSU with honors in 1954 and was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. Susan taught English and directed plays at Rossford High School. She married Richard Kinsel, a widower with a son and daughter, on June 9, 1956. The family moved to Brisbane, Australia, for Richards post-Masters schooling when their daughter Lisa was a year old, returning to Maumee in 1960. Susan continued in education in various ways including tutoring at Maumee High School and substitute teaching. She kept her mind sharp by working daily crossword puzzles. Susan moved to Creekside in March 2001. After Richard died in late 2002, She began doing more volunteer work for the Lutheran Homes Society, in addition to Creekside, including several years as a secretary for the Resident Council. Susan established the book discussion group and worked with the Lucas County Outreach Services to choose books and led some of the discussions. She did a lot of knitting, especially while watching sports on TV, and amassed a number of afghans which she liked to give as gifts. Susan was predeceased by her parents and husband, and a brother, Richard. She is survived by children, K. Sheldon (Jane); Kathy; Lisa Alibabaie; David (Jill) and Joan (Greg) Smith; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 8 nieces and nephews and their children; brother Charles. Visitation will be held at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee on Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 4560 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43614 on Friday April 15, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Homes Society, 2021 N. McCord Road, Toledo, Ohio 43615 or Trinity Lutheran Church.
