Steven Scanes

June 7, 1956 — February 13, 2021

Steven Douglas Scanes, age 64, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Toledo Hospital. The son of Joseph and Greta (Clarkson) Scanes, he was born June 7, 1956 in Ft. Huachuca, AZ. Steve was an engineer for the Norfolk Southern Railroad. Steve was very proud of the railroad and encouraged his son-in-law to join the railroad as well. Steve was known as the “Super Papa”. He loved to engage his grandchildren in conversation, even if it meant he had to google the subject so he was informed during the conversation. He always found the time to get on the floor and play with the grandchildren. Baseball was a common past time at the Scanes house. Prior to working at the railroad, Steve operated a model train hobby shop, traveling the country to railroad events and was at one time voted a top 10 vendor in the country. Steve had the ability to make you feel like you were the most important person in the room. He is survived by his wife, Joyce (nee Wohn); children, Branden Scanes; daughter, Holly Scanes (Kenny de Araujo) , Melissa (Joshua) Shuster, Lindsay Jones; grandchildren, Angel, Arianna, and Kayden Shuster, Ryan and Leylah de Araujo, Eric and Joselynn Jones; step grandchildren Deryck (Heather Floyd) de Araujo, Kyle (Kate) de Araujo; great grandchild Wyatt de Araujo; siblings, Sheila (Terry) Reetz, David (Marcia) Scanes, Jo Ella (Robert) Burtscher, Debra Jo Scanes, and Greg Scanes. He was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of life will be held at a date to be announced when the weather and health crisis permit.
