Stephen William Sloan

Stephen William Sloan passed away peacefully in his Perrysburg home surrounded by his loving children and wife on Friday, August 14th, 2015. He was Born and raised in Toledo, OH, a graduate of Bowser High School, and went on to graduate from BGSU. Steve gained much technical knowledge and experience working for various companies in Chicago, Michigan, and here at home including; National Family Opinion, Digital Equipment Corp, Ohio Hazardous Materials, Electronic Data Systems, Arthur Young, and Arbor Text Inc. All of which led him to his position as the IT Director at Surface Combustion. Throughout his years in the technical field, he developed a strong Tai Chi, yoga, and meditation practice. In 2006 he felt compelled to follow his passion in the healing arts by acquiring multiple certifications and teaching. He became a Qigong Facilitator through The Institute of Integral Qigong and Tai Chi. He received 200 and 500 hour Yoga Teacher Certifications and studied Yoga Nidra Meditation, and became a certified Reiki Master in the Usui Reiki Method from the Amrit Yoga Institute in Salt Springs Florida. Over many years he advanced his transpersonal meditation studies through Delphi University and Spiritual center, Georgia, in the Self Enlightenment Studies program. His true calling and passion shined through in his teachings where he gained much respect and love throughout the yoga community. He and his wife, Nancy established Parting Clouds Yoga LLC, where they taught throughout the region and out of their home studio. During this time, he also worked as Parish Manager at St. Pauls Episcopal Church where he was responsible for the computer systems and daily operations. Steve was on the board of directors as technical services chair for the nonprofit CATNET-University of Toledo.He was a founding member and integral part of the UTMC nonprofit, Reef Monitor, where he was a field associate and responsible for the documentation videos of Coral Reef Education in the Bahamas seen on ITunes University. As a volunteer for the Nevada wild horse population control through UTMC, he assisted with the documentation and field research. Steve had great strength and courage, was a kind, gentle, loving soul. A great lover of nature and wildlife, he was most happy outdoors, riding his bike long distances, kayaking, walking by the river, and taking photographs of the natural world. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy of 38 years, his son Nathan (Liz,), grandchildren Owen and Zoe of Maumee, daughter Phoebe (Josh) of Toledo, mother, June Sloan, sister Cynthia Hoffman (Ned), and nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his father Samuel William Sloan. A celebration of life will be held at Farnsworth Park, 8505 S. River Road, Waterville, Indianola Shelter on August 30, open to friends and family at 1:00 PM and memorial service to follow at 2:00 PM. Steve’s family is very grateful for all the compassionate support and care of Hospice Of Northwest Ohio, acupuncturist Diane McCormick MD, and Steve’s many loving friends. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30,000 East River Road, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551. Arrangements by Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee.
