Stephen R. Heban

November 2, 1936 — July 20, 2025

Stephen “Steve” Heban passed away on July 20, 2025,on the birthday of the love of his life, at the age of 88. A longtime resident of Rossford, Ohio, Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who lived by the values of faith, family, and service.

He graduated from Central Catholic High School and began working at Libbey Owens Ford Glass Factory. After enlisting in the U.S. Army, he served four years on active duty and four years in the reserves. On May 6, 1961, Steve married the love of his life, Ann Rizk, who was the center of his world. Steve later became a patent draftsman, working first at LOF and then at the Marshall and Melhorn law firm. He continued his drafting work independently until 2019, teaching himself new technologies along the way.

Steve was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and previously of St. Mary Magdalene. He volunteered his time in many roles including ushering, adoration, festival work, and offertory counting. He was known for living his faith quietly, leading by example rather than words.

He was a lifelong fan of Notre Dame and Cleveland sports, especially baseball. He enjoyed attending games with his grandsons and rarely missed their academic or athletic events. He coached his daughters when they were younger and supported them throughout their lives. He also participated in Juvenile Diabetes walks with “Cody’s Grizzlies,” and played handball for many years with his brother.

Steve is survived by his wife, Ann (Rizk) Heban; sisters Nancy Poupard and Marie Groves; daughters Sandy (Bob) Platte, Diane (Jim) Witt, and Jolie Fought; grandsons Casey (Alyssa) Witt, Cody (Caroline) Witt, and Aaron Witt; great-grandsons Daniel (DJ), Brady, and Benton; several nieces and nephews; and beloved family dogs he cared for over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Mary Heban, and brothers Richard and Norbert.
