Stephen P. Banchich, 84, of Port Clinton, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, Wednesday, June 10, 2026, after a long and fulfilling life.
Steve was born in Port Clinton, Ohio, February 8, 1942, to Stephen and Mary (Basiley) Banchich. He graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1960 and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964.
Following his military service, Steve worked as a machinist at Brush Wellman in Elmore, Ohio, retiring in 2005. Throughout his life, he loved working with his hands and was always willing to help family and friends with their latest projects. He took great pride in the lamps he crafted from reclaimed railroad signal covers.
Steve enjoyed gardening and will be fondly remembered for the abundant tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers which faithfully arrived each summer from his garden. He enjoyed meeting friends for breakfast and appreciated the simple pleasure of sitting along the lakeshore with a fresh cup of coffee.
Steve treasured time spent with family, especially during their annual Christmas Eve celebrations and while attending the many activities and accomplishments of his granddaughters. He also enjoyed traveling with Barbara, particularly to Chicago and New York City.Steve will be remembered most for his unwavering dedication to and love for his family.
Steve is survived by his wife, Barbara (Crabtree) ; son, CJ (Karin) Siemer; granddaughters, Alix (Jake) Robinson and Casey (Tyler) Siemer-Mesnard; sister, Mary Ellen (Gary) Vogtsberger; and brother, Peter Banchich. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bruce Corns; and brother, Michael Banchich.
Private funeral services will be held with interment at LaCarpe Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed in the form of contributions to the Erie Township Fire Department. Gerner Wolf Walker Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
