Stephanie T. (nee Shook) Zunk left this world and was enfolded by God's arms after a tragic accident on Thursday, March 31, 2016, at her home in Maumee, Ohio. Born to Judith 'Toody' (nee Lebowsky) and Scott Shook on Sunday, June 28, 1981 in the former Mercy Hospital, Toledo, Ohio, Stephanie attended 8 years at St. John the Baptist Catholic School. In August of 1995, Stephanie and her family moved to Perrysburg, where her family still resides. She completed her degree at Central Catholic High School where she was active in The Glee Club and Choirs. Stephanie graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Bowling Green State University in May, 2004. She immediately began her work on her Masters in Science in Public History from the University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio, and received her Master’s Degree from U,T. in 2010. While working on her degrees, she met the love of her life, Matthew Donald Zunk. Together, they loved laughing, camping and canoeing, preparing and sharing home cooked or grilled meals together, and enjoying and going on Disney trips. In fact, Matt proposed marriage to Stephanie on a Family Disney Trip in December, 2006, at 'Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party' at Walt Disney World with all of Stephanie's family watching. They married on May 8, 2008, in St. Patrick's Historic Church, Toledo, Ohio. Stephanie and Matt also loved anything Star Wars, and binge-watched their favorite series, discussing nuances of story line, how the scenes were set up, and the actor’s way of bringing a character alive. They moved to Boston, MS, in 2006, where Matthew had taken a position, and they both worked there until January, 2008. Coming back home at that time, they continued working in the Toledo area. Of all the things which were known about Stephanie, the 'History Chick' to family and friends, and would leave 'History of this Day' quotes on her web site to continue to educate her peers on the value of knowing history. She loved polar bears, as she always said she was a 'bi-polar bear' herself. She always treated her management of this affliction with strength and determination. She was proud to be eligible to be a candidate for the Daughters of the American Revolution, with three more than 6X-Great Grandfathers in the Revolutionary War of the United States. She loved visiting Gettysburg National Military Park and other Civil War battle grounds, as she had five Great-great-great,etc. Grandfathers in her Dad's line that fought for the Northern States (all from Ohio) during the Civil War. Being a soul filled with history, she loved that she was linked to our nation's history in that way. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, Bowling Green, Ohio, Chapter; Wolcott Museum House Volunteer-Maumee Historical Society, and the Depression and Bipolar Alliance Group. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Jeanette Louise (nee Thomas) and Edward G. Lebowsky, and paternal grandparents, Mary Joan 'Jo' (nee Barrett) and Paul L. Shook,, all of Toledo, Ohio, and her Great-grandmother, Mary A. (nee Wirick) Barrett to Toledo, and a cousin-in-law, David L. Wheeler, of Adrian, MI in November 2015. Surviving besides her husband and parents are her sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth Shook-Combs and Timothy Shook- Combs, and her niece and nephew, Aubrey Shook-Combs and Timothy Scott Shook-Combs, all of Toledo. Also surviving are her in-laws, H. Linda (nee Braunbern) and Mark Zunk, Toledo; sisters, Jennifer Zunk Donnals and husband, Brett Donnals of Nashville, Tennessee; Megan Zunk Wasilausky and Steve Wasilausky, of Yorktown, VA. Stephanie's beloved three nieces from Matthew's family include Hallie Donnals, Nashville, Tennessee; Sophia and Caroline Wasilausky, Yorktown, VA. Also surviving are Stephanie’s beloved cats, Luke and Leia, who will miss her very much. Family and friends will be received on Monday, April 4, 2016 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg, Ohio (419-874-3133). Funeral Services will begin at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the funeral home, followed by burial at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery.
