Stavroula Bekos, 86, formerly of Toledo, passed away October 24, 2021, in Elgin, Illinois, surrounded by her loving children. She was born July 22, 1935, in Davias, Greece to the late Christos and Constandina (Bicos) Harbilas. Stavroula married Panagiotis C. "Pete" Bekos on April 27, 1958, and he preceded her in death on August 13, 2011. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Theodore and Timothy. Stavroula moved to Gilberts, IL seven years ago to be closer to her children. She, along with her husband, owned and operated Bekos Market in Toledo for more than 50 years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and a past member of the Young at Heart group. Stavroula enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and walking; but her greatest joy was her family. She will be remembered for the deep devotion and love she always offered her family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Katherine (Nicholas) Conglis, Crist (Christine) Bekos, and George (Gillian) Bekos; grandchildren, Peter, Johnathan and Gabriella; brothers Elias (Helen) and John (Kathy); sisters, Georgia Nichols and Niki Vovakis; sisters in law, Katina and Lisa; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren; the Bekos families; and many friends whom she dearly loved. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 29, 2021, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 740 Superior Street, Toledo. Burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that a donation in her name be offered to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Memorial Fund.
