Sonia Eischen

January 10, 1945 — March 25, 2024

Sonia Eischen, 79, a resident of Martin, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 25, 2024. She was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Chris and Rina Mincheff, who had emigrated from Bulgaria. Sonia graduated from Clay High School in 1963 and attended the University of Toledo, earning her degree in radiology.

Sonia started her career working in the radiology departments of both the former Riverside Hospital and St. Charles Hospital for 20 years. In 1984 she became a radiological analyst with the Ottawa County Emergency Management team for many years and taught for a short time at Owens Technical College. She ran and was elected fiscal officer for Allen Township, in Ottawa County, a position she held for 30 years. Sonia was the perfect fit for the task of fiscal officer as she was extremely organized and knowledgeable with everything she did. This carried over into her position as assistant fiscal officer for the Allen-Clay Joint Fire District Board, helping to create the structure that operates today.

Sonia was a dedicated member of Epiphany of the Lord parishes as a lector and Eucharistic Minister also volunteering for many church projects and programs. She was always very active and had a bubbly and generous personality along with a warm smile that drew people to her. She enjoyed bird watching, traveling and spending time with family and loved ones, Chinese food, turkey with all the trimmings and Baklava for dessert.

Sonia will be missed by her son, James (LeAnne) Eischen, daughter, Colleen Eischen Hickey, numerous grand and great grandchildren and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Eric V. Eischen and brother, Ben Mincheff.
