Sofia Alvarado

Sofia Alvarado, 89, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2017 at 8:07 pm. She was surrounded by her loving family as she was taken by God. She was born on December 8, 1927 to Antonio and Eloisa Cacho in Zamora, Michoacan. She immigrated to the United States after marrying the late Joseph C. Alvarado. She dedicated her life to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Nothing brought Sofia more happiness than being with her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her loving heart and the way she always put others needs before her own. Her loss leaves an emptiness words cannot express. Sofia loved to sing and listen to “Ranchera” and “Mariachi” music, and flower gardening. One of her greatest joys was gathering her “familia” for her amazing traditional Mexican meals. Sofia was a devoted Catholic of very strong faith. Every night of her life she prayed the rosary and lived her life according to the principle of her unwavering faith. Sofia was also a cafeteria school worker for St. Thomas Church for 20 years. Sofia was the last surviving Cacho. Her siblings: Maria, Jose, Carmen, Enegina, Efigenia and Mariano are surely waiting for their little sister with open arms. Left to cherish her memory are her children; Joseph A. (Marsha Brickner), James, Sylvia Coleman – Alvarado (Thomas), Gloria Czesak (Boguslaw); grandchildren; Victoria, Michael, Anthony, Tomas, Eric, Daniel and Mark; great grandchildren, Estrella, Isabelle and Gia. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Hoeflinger-Bolander Funeral Home, 3500 Navarre Avenue, Oregon, Ohio 43616 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. On Friday, June 23, 2017 prayers will be held at the funeral home at 10:15 before going in procession to Epiphany of the Lord Parish at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish for an 11:00 am Mass. Memorial Contributions may be made to Epiphany of the Lord Parish at St. Thomas Aquinas Campus.
