Shirley C. Young

Shirley C. Young age 92 of South Toledo passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Swanton Healthcare and Retirement Center. She was born in Neffs, Ohio to Louis and Maude (Sells) Didisse on August 13, 1925. The family moved to Toledo when she was 3 years old. Following graduation from DeVilbiss High School in 1943, she began working as an executive secretary for The National Supply Company and remained there until the company moved operations to Texas in 1960. Shirley then began her employment at the then Kaiser Jeep Corporation as a secretary to the Vice President of Manufacturing. She also worked as secretary to the Director of Industrial Relations and various plant managers of American Motors, Renault and Chrysler Corporation until her retirement in 1987. Shirleys memberships included the Maumee Elks Widows and Zion Methodist Church in Toledo where she formerly was a member of the Pastor Parish Committee and the Admin Council. She was once chairperson for the United Methodist Women of Zion Church and the Evangelism Commission. Shirley enjoyed her family and friends. She was an avid reader; enjoyed southern gospel music, traveling, especially cruising . A lover of animals, Shirley supported various nature and wildlife organizations as well as humane societies, having adopted her special buddy, Mimi. Surviving is her nieces, Becky Lyon of Delta, OH; Sally (Sean) Bacon of Temecula, CA; nephews, David (Laura) Curry of Delta, OH; Tom Curry of Bryan, OH; Jim (Peg) Curry of Swanton, OH; Ed Didisse and Bob (Karen) Didisse both of McCall, ID. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Newell (Nick) Young; sister, Madge Curry, brother, Bob Didisse and nephew, Steve Didisse. Family and friends will be received at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee on Monday, March 12, 2018 from 11:00 AM until the time of services at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, Cherry Street Mission or a charity of the donors choice.
