Shirley Rose Mays, 67, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. She was born on April 22, 1955, in Meridian, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Ollie and Mary (Nichols) Mays.
She married John Allan Wilson and he preceded her in death.
Shirley graduated from Cleveland State University with a bachelor’s in political science and continued that path to pass the bar exam. She pursued roles as a paralegal and attorney for the majority of her career. She also studied for her pilot’s exam and obtained a pilot’s license in Ohio.
When not working, Shirley dedicated her life to God. In her early years she traveled the world with the Singing Angels Gospel Choir. Later she would commit much of her time to local churches and participate in charitable events within the community.
In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening and crocheting, often giving away her creations to those she loved or were in need.
Survivors include her four brothers Lawrence, Michael, Lloyd and Vernell Mays. She will also be missed by her 7 nieces, 8 nephews, loving sisters through Christ and close family friends.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Patsy and Greta Mays and nephews Anton Mays and Durrell Belton.
Per Shirley’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services at this time. Burial took place at Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Ottawa County, 161 W. Water Street, Suite B, Oak Harbor, Ohio 43449.
