With sorrow and love, the family of Shirley Haas, shares that Shirley passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, and celebrates her life. Shirley was the third and youngest child born to Casper and Frances Ciaciuch, and grew up in Toledo, Ohio, in a close-knit Polish Catholic family. She graduated with honors from Harriett Whitney High School in 1956. After graduating, she married the love of her life, Karl Haas, and was an executive secretary at Owens-Illinois until she became a mother and a homemaker. After her husband's death, she attended Owens Technical College, graduating with honors with a degree in Nursing, and worked as a registered nurse at Medical College of Ohio.
Shirley was a loving mother and grandmother, and a talented artist and singer. Earlier in life, she was very involved in St. Joseph's parish in Maumee, and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. She traveled extensively and enjoyed going on cruises. Shirley's favorite trip was a 40-day religious pilgrimage in Europe, where she visited Lourdes, and other sites in France and Italy, including where Padre Pio was buried. Shirley loved spending time with her family. She was brilliant, caring, gentle, and incredibly strong.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Karl; her children, Kelly and Bryan; her parents; and her sisters, Evelyn Steinbart and Delphine Cox. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory her children, Greg Haas and Darlene Haas Awada; and her grandchildren, Ali Awada and Maya Awada; sister-in-law, Diane Machcinski, and cousins and friends.
