Shirley Dorner

On July 31, 2018, surrounded by her loving family, Shirley went home to be with her Lord and Savior. Shirley was born February 20, 1935 to Louis & Bessie (Laubenthal) Bockelman in Napoleon Ohio. Shirley knew every day God granted her was a gift and she honored him by dedicating herself to enriching the lives of others. On November 3, 1956, she married the love of her life, Donald W. Dorner and together they had four children. Shirley was a proud graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing which led to a fulfilling 40 year career as a nurse in the Toledo area. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she visited shut-ins and coordinated rummage sales and neighborhood Christmas dinners. She treasured watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports, concerts and musicals. Shirleys greatest legacy is passing on her love of God & her service to others to her children and grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents. In addition to her husband, Shirley is survived by her children: Jeff (Jennifer) Dorner, Mike (Renisa) Dorner, Pam (Terry) Marsh, Peggy (Mark) Brunsman; grandchildren: Trent (Kate) Dorner, Trevor Dorner, Monica Dorner, Barrett Dorner, Dan (Tiffany) Dorner, Lexi Dorner, Cole Dorner, Brady Dorner, Amelia Marsh, Adam Marsh, Tyler Brunsman, Morgan Brunsman; 2 great-grandchildren: Jackson Dorner and Leo Dorner. She is also survived by three brothers: Louis (Ruth) Bockelman of Championsgate, FL, Lee (Barb) Bockelman of Palm Bay, FL, Larry (Nan) Bockelman of Meridian, ID, plus 17 nieces and nephews. We are honored to celebrate Shirleys life with a Memorial Service at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 710 Buckeye Street, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Shirley can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
