Shirley Devictor

Shirley DeVictor, age 92, passed away on August 10, 2024. Born in Toledo on June 23, 1932, to Edward and Edna Tanber, Shirley lived a full and vibrant life. She graduated from Scott High School in 1950 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo. She later went back to UT to earn her master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling.

Shirley always kept herself busy and had a diverse work history. She worked at the Junior Chamber of Commerce, modelled for Richland Furs and taught home economics. A long-time member of Highland Meadows Golf Club, Shirley was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing tennis. She was passionate about table tennis and, with a group of her friends, got so many people involved in it that the Sylvania Senior Center now has four tables. Shirley taught healthy baking and was a proud member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority.

Shirley married the love of her life, Jack DeVictor, on August 17, 1967. Together, they shared many wonderful years until Jack’s passing.

Faith was a cornerstone of Shirley’s life. She was a lifelong member of St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church, where she spent many years singing in the choir and was an active member of the Ladies Society.

Shirley’s many accomplishments cannot capture all that she meant to those who knew her. She was loved by all. Her warmth, kindness, generosity, and enthusiasm for life will be deeply missed.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Edna Tanber; husband, Jack DeVictor; grandson, Robert McCracken; and siblings, Delores Najarian, George W. Tanber, Edward Tanber Jr, Jeanette Saliba, and Virginia Thabit. She is survived by her daughter, Ann (Charles) McCracken; grandson, George McCracken; step-children, Jackie Dismuke and David (Pam) DeVictor; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to visit at St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church, 4940 Harroun Rd, Sylvania, OH, on Thursday, August 15, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Friday, August 16, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ALANO Area #55 Step One Club, or to St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church.
