Shirley JoAn DeNoon

Shirley JoAn DeNoon, 91, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026. She was born on April 17, 1935, in Crystal Lake, Illinois, to the late Arvid Benson and Lucille (Sanders) Benson.

On December 29, 1957, Shirley married her longtime sweetheart, Robert DeNoon. They shared over 60 wonderful years together until his passing in 2018.

Shirley attended Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis before continuing her education at Butler University. Following the completion of her bachelor's and master's degrees, she dedicated more than 40 years to teaching with Indianapolis Public Schools, where she positively impacted the lives of countless students throughout her career.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Delinda "De De" (Paul) Bonhard; her brother, Richard Benson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Robert, Shirley was preceded in death by her son, James "Jim" DeNoon; her brothers, Donald Benson and Eddie Benson; and her sisters, Freda Zurkan, Doris Cox, and Patsy Runyan.

Private family services will be held in accordance with Shirley's wishes.
