Shirley Ann Burns, age 74, of Swanton, Ohio died Monday, March 12, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Maumee. She was born in Toledo on August 7, 1937 to Charles J. and Ethel I. (Mason) Benner Sr., and on July 2, 1955 she married Donald “Don” Burns. A graduate of Holland High School, Shirley was employed by Wendy’s Restaurant for over 22 years, retiring in 2009. From 1985-2007 she worked alongside her husband, Don where they owned and operated D & S Concessions. She was a member of Wilkins Road United Methodist Church and she loved playing saxophone with the Springfield Alumni Band and Maumee Community Band. In her spare time she loved collecting dolls, playing Bunco and taking pictures of her family and friends. Shirley was a wonderful wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Donald “Don” Burns; children, Sheryl A. (Dean) Fennell, Tami J. (Jim) McAuley, Donna J. (Bob) Susor, Peggy S. (David) Barch, Judi K. (Evan) Shultz and James A. (Sarah) Burns; 12 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ethel Benner; daughter, Stacie Burns; sisters, Beatrice Toppins, Dorothy Doty, Eleanor DeVoe as well as her brothers, Charles J. Benner Jr. and Richard F. Benner. Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 4-9 P.M. at Neville Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, 7438 Airport Highway in Holland (419-865-8879) where funerals services will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Dan Schilling, officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Township Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers you consider Wilkins Road United Methodist Church.
