Shirley C. Almester of Rossford, Ohio passed away on her 97th birthday after a brief illness. She was born on February 18, 1922 to Roy and Elsie (Crowther) Wyatt. Shirley grew up on Spectacle Island, MA and often talked of her life on the island and her love of Boston. She married her husband, Albert Almester and they spent 60 years together until his death. Albert and Shirley traveled and lived across the country including Alaska because of Albert’s role in the USAF. In 1991 Albert and Shirley moved to Rye, New Hampshire, because of Shirley’s love for the New England lifestyle in which she grew up. She especially enjoyed the seafood and the ocean. In 2010 she moved back to Rossford to be near family and made her home there for many years. In Shirley’s early years she worked in Downtown Boston at R H Stearns Department Store selling ladies gloves. She ended her career working for Marshall and Melhorn Law Firm in Downtown Toledo. Shirley was an avid reader who loved a good mystery. She loved all animals and was known to call birds with her singing. The squirrels would come to the sound of her hitting chestnuts together. She had many dogs and loved her cats. Shirley enjoyed taking walks whether it be along the coast or around the city of Rossford. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and all of her siblings, Ben, Bob, Mary and Betty. Surviving are many nieces, nephews and extended family. In accordance with Shirley’s wishes, there will be no visitation and services will be private. The family suggests memorials in her memory be directed to the Rossford VFW. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Sujkowski-Walker Funeral Home, 830 Lime City Rd. Rossford, Ohio 43460.
