Shelly Snyder Jamieson, 63, of Toledo, Ohio, and Northport, MI, died peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, after courageously battling breast cancer for the last seven years.
Shelly was born in 1962 in Toledo, Ohio, to parents Dick and Carol (VanderPloeg) Snyder. She attended Rogers High School (‘80) and the University of Toledo (‘84), where she was a member of the cheerleading squad and majored in education. She met the love of her life, Burton Jamieson, through mutual friends in the summer of 1981 and they were married in 1985. They went on to have three children, Megan, Katherine, and Andrew.
Shelly started her career as a Kindergarten teacher, and later stayed home to raise her children. She embraced the opportunity to host team dinners, travel with the kids to tennis, basketball, and field hockey games, and always found time to lend a listening ear. Whether from the sidelines, courtside, or walking the links, Shelly was the ultimate cheerleader for all of those around her.
Shelly loved to listen to music, dance in the kitchen, throw parties, sit by a fire enjoying a glass of chardonnay (with ice!), potatoes of any kind, and never wanted to miss a sunset. She was an avid and skilled tennis player and one of her proudest accomplishments was her team finishing second in the USTA Mixed Doubles Championship in 2017, which she enjoyed reminding her three athletic children. She loved spending her summers hosting family and friends at her cottage in Leland, Michigan, fondly known as Grandma’s Beach.
Shelly was a beacon of light for all who knew her. She had an amazing, far-reaching network of friends from all stages of her life. Her positivity was infectious, and she was the ultimate caregiver, even when she was battling her cancer. She made everyone feel at home in her presence, and she was an incredibly supportive and loyal friend.
Shelly is preceded in death by her parents, Carol and Dick Snyder, and sister Jenny Cellura.
She is survived by her husband, Burton, her children, Megan Jamieson, Katherine (Danny) Folino, and Andrew (Kari) Jamieson, and her grandchildren, Sarafina, Giulia, and Giorgia Folino. Many brothers and sisters in law, cousins, aunts, and nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Kasunic and all of the wonderful doctors, nurses, staff and of course, the Shelly Squad, who helped her with her fight against breast cancer.
