Shelley Marie Killen, age 62, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania. Shelley was born October 16, 1953 in Toledo to Stanley and Gladys Trabbic. She attended Gesu and St. Pius X Elementary Schools and was a graduate of St. Ursula Academy. Early in her career, Shelley utilized her artistic skills with the Viviano family at Bartz Viviano Florist. A career change lead Shelley to dedicate over 15 years to education, working in the administrative offices at St. Joan of Arc Elementary School and St. Johns Jesuit High School. While at St. Johns, she worked in the Associate Principals Office addressing attendance and discipline issues. Shelley displayed an attitude of others first and desired to see people treated fairly in all things. Her attitude of others first was exemplified daily whether it was putting her family ahead of herself, or showing concern for each student she encountered. Shelley would treat each student with respect while ensuring fairness. Shelley continued to put others first as she battled cancer for 36 months. Her greatest concern during her battle was not for herself but for her family. Shelley volunteered for numerous organizations including St. Ursula Academy, St. Joan of Arc Parish, and also the diocese of Toledo by serving on the Diocesan Review Board. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Parish where she served as an Eucharist Minister. Shelley is survived by her husband of 41 years, Michael; children, Marcie (Steve) Gfell, Katie (Dave) Croci, and Matthew Killen (Skip Harsch); grandchildren, Noah, Sydney, Alison, Zachary, Olivia brother, Michael (Sharon) Trabbic, and sister, Claudia Trabbic; brother-in-law, Thomas (Carol) Killen; and several kind and supportive nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Steven. Shelleys family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the doctors and staff at the Hickman Cancer Center for their professional and kind treatment. Additionally, they are thankful for the staff at Ebeid Hospice and the caregivers at ProMedica in-home hospice. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 2-9:00pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.).
