Sharyn Lea Hays

On Friday, November 9, 2018, Sharyn Lea Hays, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away, at the age of 89. Sharyn was residing at Sunset Village Assisted Living in Sylvania, OH. Sharyn was born April 18, 1929 in Payne, OH, the only child of Wayne and Minnie (Fruth) Cruey. She grew up in Toledo and graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1947. On June 10, 1949, she married James R Hays. They raised one daughter, Cynthia, and one son, James JR (Chip). After graduating from DeVilbiss High, Sharyn attended Davis Business College and worked for several years at Willys-Overland Motor Company. She also modeled for several Toledo local department stores. In 1951, she moved to North Carolina with her husband, Jim, and lived on base at the USMC Air Station Cherry Point, where daughter Cindy was born. Upon moving back to Toledo son Jim Jr was born. Sharyn was devoted to her children, faithfully attending all school functions, volunteering to work at their school libraries through High School. Upon her children moving on to college, Sharyn threw herself into crafts, playing tennis, and weaving unique baskets for her friends and family. She also loved to winter in Naples, Florida with her husband. Sharyn was preceded in death by her father, Wayne, her mother, Minnie, and her In-Laws, Harry and Juanita Hays. She is survived by her husband Jim, her two children, Cindy Leffler and Jim JR, grandchildren, Matt and Nick Leffler and Clint Hays and Shayne Hays, daughter in-law, Tara and brother-in-law, Tom. Per Sharyn’s wishes there will be no funeral service. A memorial celebrating Sharyn’s life will be held at a later date.
