Sharon Elizabeth Weis was born, April 16, 1944, to Maurice and Louise (Niese) Weis of Leipsic, Ohio, where she grew up on the family farm. She died on Monday, December 19, 2016 from complications of brain cancer at The Manor at Perrysburg. Sharon graduated from Leipsic High School in 1962 and earned an Associate’s Degree in Interior Design from Davis College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Toledo. Sharon was employed for 19 years at Libbey Glass, in Toledo. She changed careers and worked as a social worker for Ohio non-profit organizations including The Contact Center in Cincinnati, Hope House in Findlay, Bethany House in Toledo, and most recently, the Salvation Army in Cleveland. She took pride in her community activism, and was active in Neighborhood Watch and Detroit Shoreways Community Development Corporation. She was a dedicated member of Cleveland’s Catholic Worker Community and volunteered many hours in their ministries. She was a member of St. Colman Catholic Church, Cleveland. Sharon was an avid vegetable gardener, had fruit trees, a grape arbor, and beautiful flower gardens as well. She was rehabbing a 100-year-old arts and crafts house in Cleveland, doing much of the work herself, when she became ill. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by a brother, John (Margaret Ann) Weis, of Powell; and sisters Margaret (Terry) Lewis, of Lambertville, MI; Jane (David, Sr.) Hilty of Pandora; Audrey Weis-Maag (Alan Maag), of Toledo; and Louann Weis (Jerry Graver), of Perrysburg; thirteen nieces and nephews, a dedicated network of Catholic Worker friends in Cleveland, and her beloved animals, Brownie, Josie, and Coco Puff. Friends will be received from 4 – 8 P.M. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Witzler-Shank Funeral home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH 43551 (419-874-3133) where a Rosary Service will be at 7:30 P. M.. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at St. Colman Catholic Church in Cleveland with visitation with family at 10:30. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army of Greater Cleveland – Ohio City Corps or to Animal Protective League of Cleveland.
