Sharon Kay Taylor

January 4, 1959 — January 25, 2013

Sharon Kay Taylor, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend passed away on January 25, 2013, in Maumee, Ohio, after a valiant struggle with ALS Lou Gehrigs disease. Born January 4, 1959 in Toledo, Ohio, she was the third of four girls born to Richard Ralph Taylor and the late Maria Kramp Taylor. A graduate of the Maumee public schools, Sharon enjoyed playing the flute and piccolo in the school band, playing softball and being a member of the National Honor Society. She received her Associates Degree in Applied Business from Owens Technical College. She then completed her Bachelors of Science degree in Business Services, majoring in accounting, from the University of Toledo. Sharon worked at Seaway Food Town, Inc. corporate office for more than 20 years in Maumee, Ohio. With the closure of Seaway Food Town, Sharon went to work for HCR-Manor Care for five years. Sharon then went to work for Rescue Mental Health Services in Toledo as the Accounting Manager . She worked there until 2011, when her illness forced her to leave a job that she enjoyed. Sharons love for people, her community, and her church were unsurpassed. She served willingly in many different capacities from helping organize the Seaway Food Town Food Expos, serving as the treasurer for her church Boy Scout Troop, serving as the Co-Director of St. Pauls Lutheran Childrens Choir Chimes, then participated with the bell and vocal choirs. Sharon was well known in the community for her involvement in the Community Outreach Program as a participant, Board member and Director for over a decade. Sharon donated freely of both her time and money to help those in need, much of this help being in quiet unassuming and anonymous ways. Sharon knew the importance of family and friends and especially relished the time she spent with children. Sharon was one of the founders of the Bay Ladies, a womens social group who enjoyed the outdoors, their faith, their friendships, and community service. Sharon is survived by her father, Richard R. Taylor of Maumee, Ohio; sisters Mary Ann Brian Mette of Cincinnati, Ohio; Barbara Gary Beverly of Grand Rapids, Ohio; Carol Mark Tanner of Spanish Fork, Utah; and 17 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Maria Anna Taylor of Maumee, Ohio. A viewing in her honor will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Maison-Dardenne Walker Funeral Home located at 501 Conant St, Maumee from 3-8 pm. Additional gathering at St. Pauls Lutheran Church from 10-11 am with funeral following on Friday, February 1, 2013, at 112 East Wayne, Maumee. The family expresses sincere gratitude for all those who were involved in Sharons care over the past few years and for the many acts of kindness and expressions of love Sharon received from friends, co-workers, and church members. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Association Northern Ohio Chapter 6155 Rockside Rd., Suite 403, Independence, Ohio 44131.
