RIDER SHARON MIMI Sharon Torp Rider age 69 of Toledo passed away Thursday, December 4, 2008 in Flower Hospital surrounded by her loving family, friends and caring 6th floor staff. She was born October 5, 1939 in Detroit to Lloyd and Eleanor Torp. Sharon received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Wayne State University and taught in the East Detroit Public School System. Moving to Toledo in 1976 she was employed at the University of Toledos Pharmaceutical Library then went on to own and operate the Ceiling Fan and Lighting Center. Very active at McCord Road Christian Church, she was involved in bible studies and numerous childrens programs and was affectionately known as Mimi by hundreds of children. Even during her illness her primary goal was to share the love of Christ with others. After retirement, Sharon volunteered at Central Elementary where her granddaughters attended to help with reading and multiple activities. Also in retirement she and her husband, Gene enjoyed traveling both by boat and recreational vehicle. Sharon was an avid Detroit Tigers and Pistons fan . Surviving is her loving husband of 48 years, Charles Gene Rider; daughters Lisa Mark Clair and Laura John Guitteau; grandchildren Brett, Ryan and Caitlyn Clair and Amanda and Kara Guitteau; father Lloyd Torp; sister Linda Jim Mackey; brothers Allan Margaret and Dennis Linda Torp; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sharon was preceded in death by her mother Eleanor and brother Ronald Torp. Friends may call at the Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey on Monday from 4-9 PM. Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 11 AM at McCord Road Christian Church 4765 McCord Rd. Interment will be private. The family suggests memorials to McCord Rd. Christian Church or to Campus Crusade for Christ designated for the ministry of Malissa Mackey www.malissa.cccministry.org For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, Plans to prosper you and not harm you, Plans to give you hope and a future.
