Sharon Henning

Sharon Henning, age 86, died Saturday, January 11, 2025 at home with her family after a brief illness. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on May 18, 1938 to Audrey (Gea) and Lawrence Duffey. She attended Gesu grade school and St. Ursula Academy. She received her Bachelors of Education from the University of Toledo where she was a proud president of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. In 1964, she married the love of her life, Fredrick Edward Henning Jr, who proceeds her in death and we know welcomed her with open arms.

Sharon lived as an example of a life of service, both formally and informally. She led multiple organizations such as St Joseph Sylvania Catholic Church and School, Junior League of Toledo, Lourdes College President’s Advisory Board, Christ Child Society of Toledo and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

A life-long educator, Sharon was a teacher & substitute for all ages across Lucas County. As a prolific learner, she engaged in local bible studies, book clubs, and the Toledo Museum of Art Muses. On her days off, Sharon, a fierce competitor, challenged her mind with playing bridge, Five Crowns, and mah-johngg. She loved exploring her home of Toledo as well as traveling around the country to visit her family.

Sharon is survived by her daughter, Karen (Bob) Ballard and son, Fred III (Anne Fath) Henning. Nana to her six grandchildren, Audrey, Brendan, Will and Sophie Ballard and Jackson and Charlotte Henning who all relished time with her and cherished the subsequent photo books she created- specifically “Camp Nana and Poppa”.

Arrangements are made with Walker Funeral Home. Her Catholic Mass will start at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 15 at Corpus Christi University Parish, 2955 Dorr Street, Toledo. Family will meet with attendees starting at 9:00 am.
