Sharon Beatrice Filipovich

November 6, 1947 — May 25, 2025

Sharon Beatrice (Cousino) Filipovich, 77, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, after a courageous and lengthy battle with dementia. Her final days were spent surrounded by the love of her family, who will forever cherish her strength, warmth, and unwavering devotion to God and family.

Born on November 6, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, Sharon was the youngest of 11 children born to Burton and Beatrice Cousino. Raised in a home where religion and family were the cornerstones of life, Sharon carried those values with her throughout her entire journey.

In 1965, Sharon married the love of her life, Joe Filipovich, at St. James Church. He came from a large and caring family who welcomed and loved Sharon as their own. Their 60 years of marriage were filled with love, laughter, and partnership. Together, they raised three daughters and built a life marked by hard work, and community-first in Maumee, OH, then Pottstown, PA, and for the past 34 years, in Perrysburg, OH.

Sharon had a natural gift for connecting with people, which she shared in her many roles at Foodtown, Kazmaier's, the Toledo Zoo, and as a volunteer at St. Rose Parish, especially serving during funeral lunches. Her deep belief in God was evident in her active participation in The St. Rose Church community, where she found strength and solace.

Above all, Sharon found her greatest joy in being "Grandma" to her six beloved grandchildren. She cherished every moment with them.

She enjoyed traveling near water, surrounded by lighthouses she adored, or sneaking off for a quick trip to a favorite casino.

Sharon loved to entertain, and her kitchen was often the heart of family gatherings. She passed down treasured family recipes, delighting everyone with homemade buckeyes, sausage stuffing, brisket, and her famous chicken pot pie. A spirited game of Hand and Foot was often part of the fun.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Joe Filipovich; daughters Sherrie Block (Krist), Shelly Penrod, and Sheryl Westendorf (Jason); grandchildren Jon, Lindsey, Cayla, Alexis, Carson, and Vera; and her brother Larry Cousino (Teresa) of Toledo, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, Beatrice and Burton Sr.; her brothers Robert, Reynold, Kenny, Jerry, and Burt; and her sisters Joyce Peters, Donna Jean Spewick, Marion Day, and Judy Eaton.

Friends and family will be received Friday, May 30, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 E. Front Street, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551. Burial will follow in St. Rose Cemetery. The Filipovich family extends heartfelt thanks to Heartland Hospice and St. Clare Commons in Perrysburg for their compassionate care and support during Sharon's final chapter. Memorial contributions may be made in Sharon’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences may be made online to the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.

We remember Sharon with gratitude and reverence, holding close the memories of her love, laughter, and legacy. While her journey with dementia was long and difficult, we find peace in knowing she is now whole again free, embraced by eternal light and love.
