Sharon L. Coder, age 88, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. Born on December 7, 1936, in Toledo, OH, Sharon lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to her family and community.
Sharon graduated from Libby High School, where she was a proud member of the honor society and played in the school marching band. In 1954, she married the love of her life, William W. Coder, and they celebrated 70 wonderful years of marriage together. Sharon and Bill were blessed with four children.
In 1960, Sharon and Bill ventured into the apartment ownership business, where Sharon served as the secretary and treasurer for 36 years. Despite her professional commitments, Sharon was an exceptional mother to her four children. She generously volunteered her time with the Harvard School PTA, the Red Cross, and helped establish the non-profit Collingwood Springs homesteading program. Sharon was also actively involved with the Ottawa County Historic Society at The Keeper's House in Marblehead, OH, where she recruited other volunteers.
Sharon cherished spending time with her family and had many hobbies, including knitting, needlework, and creating beautiful leaded glass pieces to share with family and friends. She was a long-time member of Zion United Methodist Church on Copeland Blvd in Toledo until its closure, after which she became a member of Park Congregational United Church of Christ on Harvard Blvd in Toledo, OH.
Sharon is survived by her devoted loving husband, William W. Coder; her loving children, Steven D. Coder, Dennis W. Coder, and Pamela A. Benington; and her cherished granddaughters, Claire E. Coder and Zoe E. Benington. She was preceded in death by her parents, C. E. LeGron and Betty LeGron; her son, Charles "Chuck" Coder; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Steve Knox; son-in-law, Dale Benington and her granddaughter, Korrinn Coder.
Sharon's legacy of love, kindness, and service will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Park Congregational Church, 1456 Harvard Blvd, Toledo, OH. Burial will be private at Roth Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Sharon’s name may be directed to Park Congregation Church, Ottawa County Historic Society, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
