SELMA HANNA Selma Sally Hanna, age 91, cherished and devoted Mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend departed this life on April 15, 2010. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Fuad and Sarah Zarouni. Sally was a loving daughter and caring sister. Sally graduated from Bay Ridge High School where she earned top academic honors. She has served as a role model for her childrens and grandchildrens academic pursuits. Even during her early career years, employers at various clothing companies and banks located in New Yorks financial district valued Sallys administrative skills. During World War II, Sally devoted time to selling war bonds, preparing food for soldiers at Fort Hamilton Army Base, and wrapping bandages for the Red Cross. After a whirlwind courtship with former City of Toledo fireman, George E. Hanna, Sally and George married in 1949. Sally loved being a mother and was so proud of their two daughters. Sally and George enjoyed attending the numerous functions sponsored by the Local 92 Toledo Firefighters. Sally worked at the former Lamsons Department store and then at the Toledo Board of Education in the Vocational Education Department where she made many friends. Sally was a longtime member of St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church and its Ladies Society. Her activities in the Ladies Society included baking for and serving at church dinners and festivals and also serving as Welfare Chairman for 12 years. She also volunteered for many years by collecting donations door to door for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Cancer Society. Sally is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Paul Link; daughter and son-in-law Patricia Hanna-Garlitz and Rick Garlitz; grandchildren Scott Michelle Link, Andrew Link, and John Garlitz; great-grandchild Noah Link. Brothers Alfred and Michael also survive her. Sallys husband of 54 years; parents; and brothers Raymond, Louis, and Edward preceded her in death. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Avenue. Trisagion prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. Services will be on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Elias Church, 4940 Harroun Road, Sylvania, Ohio, 43560, with the Very Rev. Fr. Paul Albert presiding. Burial will be in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. It was Sallys wishes that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the St. Elias Church Building Fund.
