Sarah E. Stroshine

Sarah E. Stroshine, 95, of West Lafayette, Indiana, formerly of Oregon, Ohio, passed away Sunday evening, April 27, 2008, in George Davis Manor, West Lafayette, Indiana. She had moved to West Lafayette in August 1998 and had been a resident of George Davis Manor since February 2005. Sarah was born February 18, 1913, in Saxe, Virginia, to Herman and Marie Klick Schnabel. On June 14, 1941, in Curtice, Ohio, she married Robert F. Stroshine, who preceded her in death January 25, 1997. Sarah was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Curtice, where she was active in the St. Lukes Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School over a period of 54 years. She also participated in Bible studies at several different churches in Oregon and Curtice. Among her favorite Bible passages were Psalm 23 and Psalm 91. Sarah taught elementary education in the Oregon schools for 27 years retiring in 1975. From 1969-1975 she helped to organize and teach the first learning disabilities class for the elementary students. Sarah was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Business and Professional Women, and AARP. Surviving Sarah are her sons, Dr. David Dona Stroshine of Salinas, CA, and Richard Alice Stroshine of West Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Elizabeth of Redding, CA, Timothy and Jonathan both of West Lafayette, IN. Her parents, husband, Robert, and brother, Herman Schnabel, preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Curtice. Interment will be private in Allen Township Cemetery, Williston, Ohio. Following the memorial service, friends and family will gather for a luncheon and time of fellowship. The family has suggested memorials to St. Lukes Lutheran Church or the donors choice. The family thanks the staff at George Davis Manor and St. Elizabeths Hospice for the loving care they provided to Sarah during her final months on earth. Robinson-Walker Funeral Home and Crematory, Genoa, Ohio, is assisting the family with arrangements.
