Sarah Elizabeth “Sally” Miller, age 54 of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away on November 30, 2022. She was born January 8, 1968 in New York to Robert F. Miller and Joan (Nan) Parfet Miller. She was preceded in death by her father, whom she adored. Sarah is survived by her mother, Nan, of Toledo, Ohio; brother, Jeff Miller of Hawaii; half-sister, Dr. Bonnie Miller of Hawaii; and many friends.
Sarah studied art and philosophy at the University of Madrid, Spain, Parsons School of Design, New York, and the Corcoran School of Art, Washington, D.C. and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Bowling Green University. She was a member of the art faculty of Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan, Adrian College, Siena Heights University, University of Toledo, and Jackson and Owens Community Colleges. She instructed college level studio arts, art appreciation, and art history courses, specializing in modern and contemporary art, and developed a studio and art history curriculum for the Lucas County Juvenile Detention Center, where she instructed high-risk youth.
Sarah’s works are held in private collections globally. Public collections include the Library of Congress and National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. In 2013 she published To Abstract, an art and poetry book that sold internationally.
Sarah lived an artist’s life. She loved every place and person she met, some for a quick stop never to be forgotten, a lucky few for life. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) over eight years ago after many years of health issues. She was dedicated to educating others about the condition.
In accordance with Sarah’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Toledo Memorial Park, 6832 Monroe St., Sylvania, Ohio; meet in the parking lot. Memorial contributions may be made to myalgic encephalomyelitis research at Stanford University or to the art programs at Toledo Public Schools. Arrangements are under the direction of Walker Funeral Home, Sylvania, Ohio.
