Sanford Rosenberg passed away peacefully at home on September 21, 2025, at the age of 78. Born and raised in Toledo, Sanford built a life rooted in kindness, humor, and simple joys. Over the course of his career, he worked as a jeweler and store manager for more than 40 years, serving families throughout northwest Ohio and Michigan.
Sanford was known for his dry wit—his son fondly remarked that his humor was “as dry as the Sahara Desert.” Beneath that sharp delivery, he was a good-natured man with a gentle spirit. He loved animals, especially cats and dogs, and his home was always open to four-legged companions.
In his free time, Sanford enjoyed playing poker with friends, hitting the golf course, and watching drag racing. He also had a love for travel; his most memorable trip was to Hawaii with his mom. Sanford had a well-documented sweet tooth—especially for Hostess chocolate cupcakes. Red Wells was among his favorite restaurants, and he was a familiar face at his beloved “office,” the Franklin Park Mall food court, where he spent many hours with friends.
Of all his joys, family was dearest to him. Sanford cherished time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness.
He is survived by his son, Steve Rosenberg (Mindy); his daughter, Michelle Russell; grandchildren, Cassie Rosenberg, Shelby Gill, Sydney Gill, Josh Kaye, and Julia Kaye; and great-grandchildren Evie Boks, Jaxon Rosenberg, and Levi Groves. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Mel Manoff; sister-in-law, Leslie Rosenberg; many nieces and nephews; He is also survived by many other cherished relatives, including his son’s mother-in-law, Pam Maddux; special friend, Michelle. He is also survived by his beloved cat Butternut.
Sanford was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Mollie (Feldstein) Rosenberg; sister, Ida Manoff; and brother, Harvey Rosenberg.
Those who knew Sanford will remember him as a man who found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, laughter in unexpected places, and love in the company of family and friends. His memory will be treasured always.
A memorial service will be held October 1, 2025, at 11 am at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. Memorial donations may be given to a Humane Society of the donor’s choice.
