SANDRA M HAAS-OPFER On the morning of July 16th, God decided to take one of the best home. Sandra M. Haas-Opfer was born January 1, 1947. She was a sister, wife, mother, and grandmother to her most precious family. She was the daughter of Marie and Thomas Haas, and sister to Thomas Haas. Sandra’s father died when she was just 2 and the family moved to Toledo, where she lived for the next 64 years. She was a proud graduate of Morrison R. Waite High School. Sandra enjoyed dancing and was also a majorette. Sandra met the love of her life Delton D. Opfer, when she met him while skating at Hinkel’s. They were married on June 17, 1967. Tragedy struck the Opfer’s on July 15, 1973, when their son was born stillborn. On January 11, 1976, they were blessed with a baby girl Tanya Marie. Tragedy struck the Opfer’s again just 1 year after Tanya Marie was born. Sandra was diagnosed with cancer and began the fight of her life. After 2 years of chemo and radiation, she has remained cancer free. As a stay at home mom, Sandra was very involved in her daughter’s life. She volunteered for her church, and was active in many organizations including Intervision Faith Group, where she drove for many of the blind people in the group. She also gave a helping hand to anyone that needed it. In her spare time you could always find Sandra, either cross-stiching, needlepointing, or scrapbooking. Sandra will be sadly missed by her friends and family. The best moment of her life came on March 30, 2013, when she watched her 2 beautiful grandchildren receive their sacraments at the Easter Vigil Mass. God has indeed received an angel today. Those to mourn Sandra’s loss is her husband, Delton; daughter, Tanya Skouroukos; grandchildren, John G. Skouroukos VI and Vanessa Marie Skouroukos, niece Deanna (Rich) Smith; great niece, Ashley Smith and great-nephew, Thomas Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Marie Haas; brother, Thomas Haas; and infant son, Chad. Friends will be received on Sunday, July 21, 2013, from 2-4 & 6-8pm in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home 701 N. Main St. Walbridge (419-666-3121). Prayers will begin at 10:15am Monday, July 22, 2013 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Good Shepherd Catholic Church 550 Clark St. Toledo. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Good Shepherd Church or Mary Ann Smith for Intervision Group. The family would also like to thank the EMT’s and Fire Department who responded when called. You all did so much. Thank You! Thoughts and prayers to the family may be made at www.witzlershank.com.
