Sandra Joan Allen, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, age of 91 in Toledo, Ohio. She was the eldest daughter of the late John and Rhea Hicks born June 7, 1931 in Detroit, MI.
Sandra was a graduate of Our Lady of Mercy High School (’49) and the University of Toledo (BS ’72). Married to John McCann for 27 years, Sandra lovingly raised six children. At age 33, she trained to become a pharmacist, and upon graduation worked 30 years.
Intelligent and uniquely creative, Sandra loved projects. Her talents and interests were unbounded; she sewed, upholstered, painted, read, played scrabble; she was never bored. Owning her own home was of deep importance, she bravely bought, decorated and sold many. In all of these homes she hosted the family gatherings and welcomed all family to live with her when needed. She was the center of a gracious, generous force affecting all in her sphere. With optimism and resilience, Sandra could adapt to all change and difficulty with admirable ease.
Sandra is survived by her cherished children, Michael (Barb) McCann, Roseanne Gorczynski, Patrick McCann, Timothy (Cindy) McCann, Kelly McCann, and Shawn McCann; beloved grandchildren, Mellanie, Monica, Jayson, Tyler, Kristin, Sarah, Charles, Melissa, Ryan, and Shawn; and many great grandchildren; her sister, Terry (John) Shaffer; and brother, Jay (Lorraine) Hicks.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, John, and Rhea Hicks; former spouse, John McCann; son-in-law, Michael Gorczynski; daughters-in-law, Linda Linkous and Linda McCann; grandchildren Heather and Michael McCarty, and one sister. Rosanne (Jack) Kearny.
