Sam Seferian age 87 of Toledo passed away peacefully on Monday August 18, 2008 in his home. Sam was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 7, 1921 to Herand and Matelde Tertzag Seferian. He was employed as an Industrial Hygiene Engineer with the State of Ohio retiring in 1982. Sam was a 1939 graduate of Waite High School. He enjoyed sharing his story of his scotch plaid uniform worn during the 1938 city championship season. He was a graduate of the University of Toledo majoring in Chemical Engineering. A WWII Air Force veteran, Sam was a navigator/bombardier in the Eight Air Force. His lead crew B-17 flew 30 missions in the European Theater between August, 1944 April, 1945. After his honorable discharge he joined the Air Force Reserves and retired as Lieutenant Colonel. Sam was a longtime member of the Park Congregational Church where he coached the Bantams Basketball League for several years. An avid Ohio State and Cleveland Indian fan, Sam also enjoyed bowling with the senior league at Southwyck Lanes. Sam is survived by his wife of 58 years. Dorothy I. Savey Seferian, children, Suzanne Ed DelaPena, Jeanine Nate Khoury, Steve Seferian and Rita John Seibert; grandchildren, Nicole, Nina Sean, Alicia, DeeDee, Tyler, Jackson and a sister Armo Mazor. Preceded in death by parents and brothers, Joe and Zaven. Friends may call at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio 43537, on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 after 10:00 a.m. followed by services at 1:00 p.m. Internment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Sams daughter Suzanne, for making it possible for Dad to remain at home during his illness.
