Sally Ann O'Loughlin

April 11, 1934 — May 26, 2021

"But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city." - Hebrews 11:16 On May 26, 2021 Sally O'Loughlin – world traveler and passionate collector – embarked on her most adventurous trip to date as she journeyed Heavenward to reunite with her parents, Edward and Hilda (Krupp) O'Loughlin; siblings, Tom and Sharon; Goddaughter, Jodi; and great-nephew, Tommy. Sally, born April 11, 1934, was the middle child of five O'Loughlins of Grantley, Road in Toledo, Ohio. She attended Blessed Sacrament Parish School and Central Catholic High School, ultimately graduating from the University of Toledo as a member of Pi Beta Phi and an educator. She spent 30 years as a home economics teacher in the public-school system at Old Orchard and DeVeaux. For many years she made her home in Ohio and Pompano Beach, Florida. But what defined Sally was her insatiable wanderlust and desire to see the world! She packed her bags 2-3 times each year and ventured by plane, boat, car, bus, and even rickshaw to over 80 countries on all seven continents. She experienced exotic locales like Bora Bora, Tunisia and Greece travelling solo or with a tour group. Sally was enamored with Ireland, walked behind the Seljalandsfoss in Iceland, and basked in the Golden City of Jaisalmer in India. She scoured markets in Morocco and never overlooked a bargain…whether in the Egyptian Khan Al-Khalili or her hometown Macy's. Her shelves brimmed with Irish Belleek and Waterford Crystal, alongside her treasured collection of nativity scenes and special gifts she'd tucked away for just the perfect occasion. Her brother, Terry (Gretchen), sister Sheila (Joe) Jordan and sister-in-law Ruth (Bill Mercer) O'Loughlin; 29 nieces, nephews, and their spouses; 35 great-nieces and nephews (plus Baby Cassandra Sally, arriving July, 2021) along with their husbands; and 2 great-great nephews will keep her memory alive re-telling her legendary stories and hanging holiday ornaments from the Christkindlesmarkt in honor of Aunt Sal. Friends will be received on Wednesday, June 2nd at 10:30am in the Narthex of Saint Joseph Church, 5411 Main Street, Sylvania, OH, followed by a funeral mass at 12 noon. Arrangements are being handled by Walker Funeral Home www.walkerfuneralhomes.com. Those wishing to offer a tribute are asked to consider the Jodi Jordan Allen Women's Tennis Memorial Fund at Xavier University, a fund recently created in honor of Sally's niece and Goddaughter, a former tennis player and proud alumna of XU. To make a gift, please go to the Xavier athletic site at http://www.goxavier.com or contributions may be mailed to Xavier University Athletics, JJA Women's Tennis, ATTN: The Office of Greg Christopher, 3800 Victory Parkway, Cincinnati, OH 45207-7530.
