Sally Lou Drake

Sally Lou Drake, age 87, died March 7, 2018 at The Lakes of Sylvania. She was born August 10, 1930 in Toledo, the only child of the late Harold and Hazel (Hildebrand) Balsmeyer. Sally graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1948 and the University of Toledo in 1952 with a Bachelor of Education. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. On August 11, 1950, she married John R. Drake at Augsberg Lutheran Church and together they shared 62 years of marriage until his death in 2013. Sally taught 2nd Grade at DeVeaux Elementary School from 1951-57 before devoting her life to family as a homemaker. Sally enjoyed traveling the United States with her husband. A member of Christ Presbyterian Church, she was always committed to serving the needs of others. Sally volunteered with Mobile Meals, Manor House, Riverside Hospital in Columbus and St. Lukes Hospital Auxiliary in Maumee. She was also a member of The Toledo Womens Club and the Junior League. Skilled at quilting and knitting, Sally knitted hundreds of hats, gloves and scarves for needy children in Toledo. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Tom (Adrienne) Drake and Lisa (Lance) Daggett; grandchildren, Matthew Drake, Brent Daggett, Haley (Cody) Kujawski, Chris (Dina) Green and Lindsay (Bob) Delrue; and five great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1-6 p.m., Sunday, March 11, 2018 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). Funeral services and burial at Toledo Memorial Park will be private . Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Mobile Meals.
