S. Douglas Falls, 69, of Catawba Island, passed away September 5, 2016 at The Toledo Hospital. Doug was born on October 15, 1946 in Bowling Green, OH, the son of the late Margaret (Holt) and Clement Falls. He earned both a Bachelors and Masters of Science from The Ohio State University. While at Ohio State, Doug met his future wife, Alison Lanza, and they were married January 8, 1972 in Fairmont, WV. Together, Alison and Doug lived in Louisville, Washington, and Chicago. When they moved to Catawba Island in 1998, Doug built a legacy around his great grandfather’s 1905 Holt Cottage on Sand Road. Doug lived life fully and passionately, had a generous heart, a wonderful sense of humor, and revered intellectual discourse. He had a life-long connection to agriculture, the lake and nature. Doug’s greatest loves included his Best Buddy, Yogi; Ohio State University football, as a season ticket holder for 30 seasons; progressive politics; the warm weather at their place on Jekyll Island; and golf. Doug was a member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, the Catawba Island Club and Plum Brooke Country Club. Graveside Services will be conducted at 3 PM, Friday, September 9, 2016 at Catawba Island Cemetery, Port Clinton. A celebration of Doug’s life will continue at the family home on Catawba Island. Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton is handling the arrangements.
