Ryan L. Herzig, 29, of Toledo, Ohio, peacefully passed away Monday, November 5th, 2007 at the Toledo Hospital surrounded by family and friends. Ryan had courageously battled against an aggressive cancer and is now free. Ryan was born in Toledo on March 10, 1978 to David and Patricia Herzig. Ryan was a full-time Technical Sergeant with the 180th Fighter Wing in Toledo, Ohio specializing in Intelligence and Safety. He participated in numerous overseas deployments including Operation Northern and Southern Watch. Aviation was his passion. He was an accomplished private pilot with a true love for flying. Prior to joining the Air National Guard, he worked at Suburban Airport in Lambertville, Michigan and Sautters Grocery Store in Sylvania. He is a graduate of the University of Toledo. He married the love of his life, Sarah Kowalski, in 2003. Ryan was a kind and generous man devoted to his family. He always had a smile on his face and will be sadly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Frances M. Herzig and grandfather, Burdette H. Babcock. He is survived by his wife, Sarah; parents, David and Patricia; brothers, Jason and Austin Ashley; nieces, Hailey and Leia Herzig; grandmother, Frances Babcock; grandfather, Arnold Herzig Joyce Grimes; mother and father-in-law, David and Mary Kowalski; brothers-in-law, David, Mike, Matt Rhonda Kowalski; nieces, Jade and Jenna Kowalski and many, many aunts and uncles. Friends and family may call at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., on Thursday from 4 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 am at Hope Baptist Church, 6250 South Ave., where visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
