Ruth Ann Williams

Ruth Ann Williams, age 77, of Toledo, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family. The daughter of James and Pauline Burris Moody, she was born on November 11, 1931 in McDonald, Ohio. Ruth attended Westminster College in Pennsylvania and was involved with the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. For over 18 years, Ruth was employed by the Washington Local School System serving as Executive Secretary to the Principal at Jefferson Junior High School. She also taught swimming lessons and worked as a lifeguard at the West Toledo YMCA for many years. Ruth also worked part-time for Gladieux Catering. Fitness was a big part of Ruths life. She was an excellent swimmer which was reflected in her competing in the Senior Olympics in the swimming division numerous times. She was also a regular at the Wildwood Athletic Club until just a couple weeks before her death. Ruth enjoyed the sun, water and the beach. She also loved college basketball and was an avid fan of Duke University. Ruth enjoyed traveling, some of her favorite places included Iceland, Alaska, California and Florida. She was a season ticket holder and supporter of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra and the Toledo Opera. She was enriched by her memberships to the Toledo Museum of Art and the Toledo Botanical Garden. Ruth loved to spend quality time with her grandchildren. She was a dear friend to many. And her many friends and family will miss her beautiful, sharing and caring spirit. Ruth is survived by her sons, David Williams Natalie of Toledo and Daniel Williams Myra of Chula Vista, CA; daughter, Donalee Unal Dr. Apo of Harrisburg, PA; grandchildren, Kara Unal and Joshua, Samuel, Christopher and Sara Williams; and sister, Jane Marie Scanlon John of Ponte Vedra, FL. Visitation will be on Saturday from 2-9PM at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave., where the funeral ceremony will take place on Sunday at 2PM. Private interment will be in Bradenton, FL. Those planning a memorial contribution are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio or a charity of the donors choice.
