Ruth E. Sarno, 91, formerly of Jacksonville, Florida, and currently of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on December 26, 2014. She was born in Gordan, Alabama on March 7, 1923 to Joseph and Lonie Bond. As a teenager she moved with her family to Jacksonville, FL. She met and married Richard Sarno in 1943 while he was in the Marine Corps. They lived in Santa Ana, CA, Cherry Point, NC, and Quantico, VA. They retired to Jacksonville, FL in 1958, where they lived until 2003. In 2003 they moved to Swan Creek Retirement Village in Toledo near their oldest daughter. For the majority of her marriage she was a homemaker, working for a short while at Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance. In her neighborhood in Jacksonville all the children called her “Granny Ruth” and she always had a hug for everyone. Two of her hobbies were needle crafts and working crossword puzzles. Ruth was the third youngest of seven children. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Billy and Edward Bond and sisters, Marteel Hatton, Geraldine Sullivan and Mary Bond. She has one surviving sister, Carolyn Merritt. Ruth and Richard had three children, Rickye (Henry) Heffner, Richard Sarno, Jr. (deceased) and Rudi Jenkins. She is also survived by grandchildren, Henry (Sarah), Peter (Cathy), Kristin, Casey (Justin) and Danielle, and six great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2014 at 2:30 P.M. at the Reed Chapel at Swan Creek, 5916 Cresthaven Lane in Toledo, OH.
