Ruth G. Martin

Ruth G. Martin, age 89, of Sylvania, died November 29, 2021, at her home in the care of her beloved family. She was born March 2, 1932, in Toledo, the only child of the late Joseph and Vera (Martin) Danner and went on to graduate from Woodward High School. Ruth was a homemaker for many years until her children were out of the house and then went to work in Industrial Manufacturing. She was skilled at knitting and crochet, sharing her talents by creating hats, mittens, and scarfs which were donated and shipped overseas for those in need. She also selflessly volunteered at the Anne Grady Center for many years. An avid reader, Ruth was well known for being a mother to many, opening her home to provide meals, particularly on Sunday, to her neighbors, her children’s friends, and anyone who wished to join her family. She was committed to seeing other people well cared for, happy, and comfortable. Her giving nature made her many friends, as well as the title “The Cool Mom” when her children were young. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Pamela (Terry) Butler, Cindy Thurman, and Douglas Martin; grandchildren, Kelly McCray, Ryan Thurman, Matthew Butler, and Michael Butler; great grandchildren, Andrew McCray, Bailey McCray, Mason Thurman, and Madison Thurman. Ruth was also preceded in death by her husband, Verl Eugene Martin in 1984; and daughter, Michelle “Shelly” Martin. Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, December 2, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.). Committal rites and burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Memorials are suggested to the Anne Grady Center.
