Ruth Adelaide Heinsen died Monday, March 28, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her children. She was born July 28, 1916, in Bay Township, Ottawa County, Ohio, the third of four daughters of Lester D. and Clara Fall Luchsinger. She picked fruit at her fathers orchards and baled hay, as the familys self-described tomboy. She and her sisters and friends enjoyed swimming and tennis at the Port Clinton Yacht Club, and summer camps at Lakeside and Camp Colloqua. She graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1934, a member of the school band and the girls basketball team. She continued to play trombone at events with the Harry Weideman Band, and played basketball with the Standard Products womens team after high school. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert E. Heinsen, on May 21, 1937 and they farmed in Portage Township until their retirement in 1976. Ruth was a hard working farm wife, driving tractor, planting and marketing tomatoes to local restaurants as well as having her own roadside stand. She was a wonderful aunt and grandmother and the children, their cousins and friends had many happy times on the farm. Ruth was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, an avid bridge player, and had many close friendships over the years. She is survived by her beloved sister Jean Burns of Fort Myers, Florida, with whom she talked and sang camp songs nearly every night, daughters Lois Marshall of Sandusky and Kathleen Warren Leonard, who had the privilege of sharing their homes with her, and son, Edward Vickie Heinsen of Port Clinton, nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, five great grandchildren, beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins, sisters-in-law Lucille Lemmerman of Norwalk and Margaret Heinsen of Port Clinton, and brother in law Dr. Paul Heinsen of Winnimac, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, sisters, Mary Lemmerman and Helen Allen. Thanks to Dr. Rowe, the staff at Edgewood Manor, Firelands Hospital and EMS, and Stein Hospice. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, The Sight Center of Northwest Ohio, or the charity of the donors choice. Visitation is Saturday, April 2, at Trinity United Methodist, 135 N. Adams, from 10:00 until services at 12:00PM. Gerner-Wolf-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Port Clinton, OH assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
