Ruth Janet Ellis

Ruth Janet (Gray) Ellis, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Swan Creek Retirement Village. Ruth was born on November 5, 1921 in Toledo, Ohio to Robert P. and Norma (Dusseau) Gray. She graduated from DeVilbiss High School and attended the University of Toledo During World War II, Ruth worked in Toledo at Owens Illinois, and met the love of her life Bob, who was stationed in Toledo. She married Robert M. Ellis on January 14, 1944 at Monroe Street Methodist Church in Toledo, Ohio and he preceded her in death on February 6, 2012. Ruth was an accomplished pianist, accompanying many choruses at church as well as at the Toledo University. She continued to play and accompany many groups through the years. She worked for Toledo Public Schools for over 20 years as a school secretary. Ruth was passionate about her work at Glendale-Feilbach Elementary School. Ruth and Bob were snowbirds and spent many winters in their Florida home. She is survived by her children, Janet (Philip) Fortune, Linda (Terry) Dachenhaus and Robert (Judy) Ellis; grandchildren, Molly (Chris) Kemper, Philip (Tracey) Fortune, Jr., Laura (Jay) Hoffman, Chelsey (David) Smeiles, Lindsay Ellis and six great-granddaughters. Along with her husband, Robert, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert F. Gray. Funeral services will be private. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg (419-874-3133).
