Ruth Ohler Carpenter, 98, of Port Clinton, OH, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2008 at her residence. She was born in Grandville, MI on November 24, 1909, the daughter of Adam W. and Elsie Neumeister Ohler. Her parents were the founders of Ohler and Holzhauer. Ruth graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1927 and attended Miami University and Bowling Green University, where she graduated in 1930. She married Laurence Carpenter, in Meadville, PA and he preceded her in death on June 19, 1985. They were married for over 50 years. Ruth taught in Carroll Township for one year and taught kindergarten in Port Clinton for 23 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Port Clinton, OH. Ruth also was a member of the Antiquarian Club, Eastern Star, Delta Zeta Sorority, Jefferson Retired Teachers, State Teachers Association, and Ottawa County Historical Society. She was a former member of the P.E.O. and the Port Clinton Yacht Club. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Survivors include: Son: Thomas A. Judy Carpenter of Port Clinton, OH; 3 Grandchildren; 4 Great-Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and husband. At the request of the family, there will be no visitation. Funeral services will be private. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton, OH. Memorial contributions in Ruths memory can be given to Trinity United Methodist Church.
