Toni Lou Wandtke Varner (nee Fries), 68, of Holland, died unexpectedly along with her husband, Russell “Butch” George Varner, in an automobile accident on Sunday, December 20, 2015. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 25, 1947 to George Sr. and Betty Kasley Fries. She was a graduate of Devilbiss High School. Toni and Russ were married on November 25, 1992 in Clark County, Nevada. Toni worked for Slurry Seal, GNB Technologies, Control Data and various dentists throughout the Toledo area and was most recently enjoying retirement. She also assisted in operating Russell Varner Plumbing alongside him for many years. She was a member of the Grand Rapids Sportsman Club and together, they enjoyed boating, traveling, country music, and shared a love for animals. Toni was also a huge Barry Manilow fan! Toni is survived by her children, Richard (Shelly) Wandtke, Todd (Todd Taylor) Wandtke, Lisa (Jade) Perry; step daughter, Tammy Soltis; grandson, Cameron Perry, who affectionately referred to her as “Grandma Toledo”; step granddaughters, Kylie, Madison, and Ashley Soltis; as well as her brother, George Fries, Jr. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Kurucz; father, George Fries, Sr.; step-father, Albert Kurucz; as well as her sister-in-law, Beth Fries. Friends will be received on Monday, December 28, 2015 at Neville Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, 7438 Airport Highway in Holland (419-865-8879) from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. where Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. He was born on December 8, 1944 to Russell H. and Yvonne Varner. He was a graduate of Springfield High School and he was a proud Veteran, having served in the United States Coast Guard. Butch later married Toni L. Wandtke on November 25, 1992 in Clark County, Nevada. He owned and operated Russell Varner Plumbing for nearly 35 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Maumee Aerie #2562 and The Grand Lodge F & AM Northern Lights Lodge #40 in Maumee. Butch enjoyed boating, traveling, and country music. He was also an animal lover and a member of Grand Rapids Sportsman Club. Butch is survived by his daughter, Tammy M. Soltis; step children, Richard (Shelly) Wandtke, Todd (Todd Taylor) Wandtke, and Lisa (Jade) Perry; grandchildren, Kylie, Madison, and Ashley Soltis; as well as his step grandson, Cameron Perry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Yvonne.
