Russell Walter Rice

Russell W. Rice, 91 years old of Toledo, passed peacefully away into the loving arms of Jesus on October 31, 2015 at Ebeid Hospice Residence. He was born to Martin and Dorothy Rice on August 2, 1924 in Toledo, OH. Russell was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School and the College of Engineering at the University of Toledo. He married Joyce Mitchell on September 1, 1951. He was a loving husband and father. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. Russell worked for Toledo Hospital and the former Medical College of Ohio as Director of the Physical Plant. Russell was a long-time member of Washington Church and Quarry Ridge Community Church. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Masonic Lodge for 70 years as well as the Zenobia Shrine, Scottish Rite and Royal Order of Jesters. He is survived by his children, Gregg (Sue), Julie (Steve) Frazier, Russ Jr. (Cheryl), Pam; grandchildren, Jon Katy Rice, Jessica (Mark) Sorbo, Garrett, Robert (Shayna), Mitchell (Lindsey), William Benn Frazier, Emma and Elliot Rice. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother Richard. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 4, from 2-5 6-9 PM at Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd) where services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Quarry Ridge Community Church 6769 Maplewood Sylvania, OH 43560. The family wishes to extend a thanks to West Park Place, Kingston Assisted Living, Flower Hospital and Ebeid Hospice Residence for their exceptional care of Russell.
