Russell L. Nichols

Russell L. Nichols, 87, of Maumee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Maumee Pointe, surrounded by his loving family.

Russell was born on March 30, 1938, in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, to Donald and Marie (Walker) Nichols. He attended the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, where he proudly earned his Varsity Letter in Cross Country and Track during the 1956-1957 academic year.

In 1965, Russell married the love of his life, Nancy. Together they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and devotion to family.

Russell was a dedicated member of the Maumee Elks, Maumee United Methodist Church, the BGSU Falcons Club, and the Maumee Athletic Boosters. He was an avid euchre player and a devoted Green Bay Packers fan. Russell and Nancy were accomplished square dancers, proudly ranking among the top four couples in the United States reaching Challenge 6 levels and organized several National Square Dance Conventions across the United States.

They had a deep love for camping and cherished every opportunity to spend time with his family and friends at Sugar Mill Lake outside Crawfordsville, Indiana. It became their home away from home.

Russell is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; his sons, Samuel (Nanci Wise) Nichols, Todd (Lisa) Nichols, and Brian Vanna; grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, and Anthony; his brother, Wallie (Janet) Nichols; and his brother-in-law, Alden Pedersen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Steven Nichols and Dennis Vanna; his daughter, Brenda Vanna; and his sister, Judy Pedersen.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 6, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio.
