Russell W. Blatt, 86, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025. He was born on July 20, 1939, to Fred and Dorthy (Warnke) Blatt.
Russell proudly served in the United States Navy for a short time before beginning his career with a telephone company and as a truck driver. In the winter of 1978, he started his own trucking business, hauling all kinds of loads but mostly freight. Known for never listening to music in his truck, Russell preferred conversation, whether with fellow truckers over the radio or with a passenger riding along.
Outside of work, Russell found joy in the outdoors. He loved fishing on Lake Erie, deer and duck hunting, tending to his vegetable garden, and smoking meats and canning vegetables. He was especially proud of his garden and enjoyed passing along stories and laughter with family and friends.
Russell also enjoyed watching The Price is Right, nature shows, and Westerns. He was a member of the Eagles in Fremont and Florida, as well as the Cooley Canal Yacht Club.
He is survived by his children, Shelly (Larry) Riehl, Ryan Blatt, and Bradley (Deb) Blatt; grandchildren, Melissa, Tyler, Kristina, and Mandi; four great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Esther (Jess) Priddy, Norma Kihlken, and Ruth Whipple. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gerald Blatt.
Private services will be held for the family. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
