Russel Rhodes, Sr.

RUSSEL A. “PA” RHODES, SR. Russel Rhodes, Sr. age 95, of Holland, Ohio passed away on March 25, 2013 at Ebeid Hospice, Sylvania. Mr. Rhodes was born in Napoleon, Ohio on May 8, 1917 to Benjamine & Nettie (Glantz) Rhodes. He married Mary E. Vargyas in Ottawa, Ohio on February 20, 1935 and she preceded him in death on November 3, 1996. A WW II Navy Veteran, Mr. Rhodes was the owner of Russ Lumber & Supply, an active member of the Cooley Canal Yacht Club, the Lumberman’s Association and an original member of the Sportsman Club of Mt. Jewett, Pa. Russel was an avid hunter, fisherman and a great story teller. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving are his children, Russel (Ann) Rhodes, Jr.; Albert “Boots” (Shirley) Rhodes; Marie Lord; Jeanne (Mack) Moon; Rosemary Piacecki; 62 grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Leuck. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Rhodes; grandson, Michael Piasecki and son-in-law, Gerald Piasecki.. Friends will be received in the Neville Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland (419-865-8879) Thursday from 2-8 pm where funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday March 29, 2013. Burial will follow at Swanton Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff of Edeid Hospice for all their care and comfort offered to Russel and his family. In lieu of flowers the family wishes you to consider your elderly neighbors and perhaps provide them with a meal.
