Roy Ritter

April 26, 1925 — September 8, 2009

Roy Ritter, 84, of Toledo, passed away after a long battle with health problems on Tuesday evening, September 8, 2009, at Regency Hospital in Sylvania. Roy was born to Max and Margaret Ritter on April 26, 1925 in Evansville, Indiana, where he grew up and married Margaret Hollander on July 10, 1948. They just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. A Veteran of the US Army Air Corps, Roy proudly served his country from 1944-1947, stationed in Germany before being honorably discharged. He began his 33 year career with Toledo Scales in Evansville before being transferred to Toledo in 1957 where he worked as a buyer for many years until he retired in 1982. Roy was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church for 52 years. He loved his family first and foremost, especially enjoying watching his grandchildren play sports and hosting family poker nights. He also enjoyed playing golf and poker with friends and watching baseball and other sports on TV. Roy could build or fix most anything. He did most of his own home remodeling-doing most of the work of building a new house, building a garage addition, and adding on a family room. He also was a master at cultivating roses. At one time he had 35 rose bushes in his back yard and he loved to relax by caring for them. Roys parents and his sister, Wanda Butsch preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Margaret; daughter, Karen Couturier Michael of Sylvania; son, Max Ritter Patricia of Maumee; grandchildren, Wendy Linkimer Jason of Canton, MI, Matthew Ritter Leah of Perrysburg, Julia Couturier of Columbus, Andrew Ritter Crystal of Holland, and Ryan Ritter of Maumee; great-granddaughter, Keilyn Linkimer; and two nieces. Friends and family may visit on Friday from 2-5 & 6-9PM at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave., where a scripture service will be held at 7PM. Funeral services will begin with prayers at the funeral home Saturday at 9:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3011 Carskaddon Ave., Toledo. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Roys family requests that anyone planning a memorial contribution consider St. Annes Hospital, Regency Hospital, Franciscan Care Center or St. Pius X Church.
